Short Description
Keep your pond water clear, healthy, and oxygenated with the SunSun CBF-350 Biological Pond Filter. Designed for garden ponds up to 12,000 liters (6,000 liters for ponds with fish/Koi), this gravity-fed flow-through filtration unit combines mechanical particle removal with multi-stage biological purification. Featuring integrated temperature readouts, dirt level indicators, and an easy-clean squeeze system, maintaining a healthy aquatic ecosystem has never been easier.
Key Features & Highlights
- Multi-Stage Filtration System: Combines mechanical coarse/fine filtration sponges and a Japanese matting layer (Japan mat) to trap debris and foster beneficial nitrifying bacteria.
- Integrated Temperature & Dirt Indicator: Easily monitor real-time water temperature and track filter clog levels at a glance without opening the lid.
- Easy-Clean Shoving/Squeeze System: Clean filter media quickly without messy teardowns—simply press and squeeze out trapped sludge using the integrated mechanism.
- Bottom Sludge Waste Drain: Built-in bottom outlet allows quick flushing of heavy dirt and coarse debris directly out of the chamber.
- Modular UV Clarifier Compatibility: Seamlessly mounts to SunSun CUV series UV-C clarifiers (e.g., CUV-218, CUV-224, CUV-236) to eradicate floating green algae.
- High Flow-Through Rate: Supports water flow rates of up to 8,000 L/h.
Detailed Product Description
The SunSun CBF-350 Bio Pond Box Filter is an all-in-one gravity filter solution engineered for medium-to-large garden ponds, Koi ponds, and decorative water features.
How It Works: Dual Mechanical & Biological Purification
- Mechanical Filtration: Pond water enters the 60-liter capacity box filter via a connected pond pump. It passes through coarse and fine foam sponges that trap suspended particles, fish waste, leaf fragments, and floating dirt.
- Biological Filtration: Water flows across the high-surface-area Japan Matting, providing the perfect habitat for beneficial microorganisms. These bacteria break down toxic ammonia and nitrites into harmless nitrates, supporting healthy fish and plant life.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
- Positioning: Place the CBF-350 above the pond water level on the pond bank, hidden in a shaded location away from direct sunlight. Gravity allows filtered water to flow back into the pond through the 70 mm outlet.
- Pump Selection: Connect to a submersible pond pump with a flow rate up to 8,000 L/h (pump sold separately).
- Biological Cycling: Allow 4–6 weeks for beneficial bacteria to fully colonize the bio-media before switching on any attached UV-C clarifiers. Adding bacterial starters can accelerate this process.
- Routine Cleaning: When the dirty-water indicator rises, open the bottom sludge drain and press the filter media using the internal squeeze handle to discharge accumulated dirt.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is a pump included with the SunSun CBF-350?
A: No, the CBF-350 is a gravity-fed filter housing and media unit. A suitable submersible pond pump (up to 8,000 L/h) and connecting hose are required.
Q: Can I attach a UV-C clarifier directly to this filter?
A: Yes! The housing includes pre-drilled connection points designed to mount SunSun CUV series UV clarifiers (such as CUV-218, CUV-224, or CUV-236) directly onto the box.
Q: Can this filter be buried below ground level?
A: No. Because it is a gravity-exit flow-through filter, the outlet must remain above the pond water level. For underground installations, a pressurized filter is recommended.
